2022 Irving Marathon Recap

The 2022 Irving Marathon has come and gone. April 2 was a gorgeous day with thousands of participants coming to enjoy the races at Toyota Music Factory. The weather was ideal. The atmosphere was electric. Smiles were everywhere.

“Today was a great day. I’m so thankful,” Rick Stopfer, City of Irving Mayor, said.

Both seasoned runners and new runners enjoyed the venue, too. Some runners even participated in the first Irving Marathon 10 years ago.

“The Irving Marathon has come a long way. When it first started it was one of those small-town gatherings of runners,” Javier Vilchis said. “I ran the first Irving Marathon 10 years ago. It was really hard. We ran through the campion trail. Now that it’s moved over to the Toyota Music Factory, it’s way better.”

“I was here to run it and I really love Irving and I want to bring more people to Irving to run it,” Vilchis added. “It’s becoming one of the nicest areas to run around.”

“My first race with Irving Marathon was the virtual marathon in 2020. I’ve been coming to all the races ever since,” Carlos Del Pino, Irving Marathon Ambassador, said.

“Irving Marathon is a great event,” Andy Wang, who was a pacer for the half marathon, said. “I used to live in Irving and I love Irving. It’s great that they have this event. I hope it continues and that we see many more.”

Over the last 10 years, the Irving Marathon has grown and continues to attract new people and businesses to the community. Mayor Stopfer praised IMRS founder and CEO, Lazaro Alvarez, for his work on the event.

“Lazaro has just done an amazing job. To graduate from school here and to be involved in the community and come back and want to build something… this is an event that will continue to grow and get better,” Mayor Stopfer said. “It’ brings us all together, and this is what it’s all about. What [Lazaro] has accomplished until this point is amazing. And it’s only gonna get better.”
